RAKE Week is always a highlight on the University of Brighton calendar — and this year didn’t disappoint. From formal panels to informal conversations, it was a chance to explore what inclusive, impactful research really looks like.
I co-presented with Dr Catherine Kelly on communicating research to non-academic audiences — something I’ve done through public talks, local government events, and community partnerships. I also had the fun of submitting an edible metaphor in the “Bake Your Thesis” competition, exploring access beyond sight in blue spaces.
To top it off, I was honoured to win the People’s Prize in the Research Photo Competition — a creative reminder of how powerful visuals (and humour) can be in opening up academic work.
RAKE Week reminded me that research doesn’t have to sit in formal reports or behind paywalls. It lives in connection, curiosity, and creative exchange — and sometimes, even in cake.
