Community Conversations at The Bevy

The Bevy isn’t just a pub — it’s a space for dialogue, learning, and community. I was grateful to be invited to speak there alongside Dr Catherine Kelly as part of the “Brains at the Bevy” series.

We explored how different communities — human and more-than-human — experience blue spaces, and what it means to rethink accessibility in ways that go beyond ramps and signage. The discussion that followed was rich and honest, shaped by people’s lived experiences of health, nature, and inequality.

The Bevy’s setting reminded me how important it is to share research in spaces that feel welcoming and grounded — and how much we can learn when we meet people where they are.

This event reinforced something at the heart of Accessible Waters: that inclusion isn’t a design feature — it’s a process of listening, showing up, and holding space for others to shape the story too.
