There’s something powerful about coming together around shared questions — especially when they’re about culture, care, and how we live with and within disability.
The inaugural Models to Realities symposium, hosted by the Disability Culture Research Group (DisCReg), brought together researchers and allies to explore what it means to move beyond static models of disability. Presentations centred lived experience, minoritized genders, and intersectional understandings of access and identity.
Held in person at Brighton and online via Teams, the event created space for fresh insights, grounded discussion, and future collaborations. For me, it was a joyful and generative day — a reminder of why this work matters.
When we centre disability culture not as a topic but as a way of being and knowing, we open space for something richer than inclusion: we begin to reshape the structures themselves.
