Visual Awareness Training at University of Brighton

What does it mean to see the world differently and how can we build environments that respond to those differences with care, not exclusion?

On 17 July 2025, with support from the University of Brighton Doctoral College, we hosted Sight Support Worthing (SSW) on campus to deliver a tailored visual awareness training session for postgraduate researchers and staff. The session was designed to improve understanding of sight loss and offer practical strategies for more inclusive ways of working — across academia and beyond.

The training combined lived experience, up-to-date guidance, and warm, accessible delivery (not to mention plenty of humour!). From navigating public spaces to making research and communication more inclusive, the session invited participants to rethink assumptions and consider the realities of sight impairment in everyday contexts.

Sight Support Worthing are CBD-certified and offer bespoke training to organisations across sectors,  including education, health, business, and community settings. We highly recommend reaching out to explore what they can offer.

Participants left not only better informed, but energised to take action – embedding accessibility more deeply into both research and institutional practice.
